shopperdisc.co.uk WARNING

15 May, 2007 (15:45) | Discussion | By: jps

I’m angry. I bought some flowers from interflora for my mum on the internet a few months ago. At the same time some company called http://shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk collected my card information and have been charging me £8 a month for no reason. Check your credit card statements and if you see £8 being removed periodically by them call them up and cancel. The woman on the phone was quite friendly and I managed to cancel and get a full refund by getting a bit shirty - beware!

Their phone number is 08082341539

JPS

Late additional edit from CMB: This may also show up on a credit card bill as WLI*SHOPPERDISC, either way it’s exactly the same thing!

YES! I had the same problem. They are a USA company (or hire USA staff). I live in the UK but had flowers delivered to the USA, so may have used a USA site.

They do sort the problem out very efficiently though, so I guess they’re used to people calling and complaining.

I’ve heard that the reason they get away with it is because they have good customer service so no one bothers to officially complain. They rely on people not noticing.

This has happened to me too!! I never thought anything of it the last couple of months - just thought it was me forgetting a purchase i made, but when the £8 appeared on my statement again this month, i googled the ’shopperdisc’ information and saw these notices!! will have to sort it out - its a scandal!!

Thank you for putting this forward, if it wasn’t for your comments I would have thought it was a transaction I had forgotten about.

I rang and an American lady was very nice, she said she would refund the last month back but when I said you have taken it for the last two months she then said she would refund whole amount (£16.00) with in 5 days! Lets hope Ellen keeps her word!!

Comment from Don Cocker

I reported a shopperdisc.co.uk unauthorised debit to my credit card supplier who has provided credit back to my account and has undertaken to advise the debiting company that the transaction has been voided.

Since reading the information here I have forwarded this sites details to both my credit card supplier and Interflora whose data they seem to be feeding of.

May I ask that all who have been stung or foiled an unauthrised debit do the same? Especially to Interflora who must be concerned about a possible data steal.

Can’t beleive how this company is getting away with this. I’m ringing up this morning and hoping to get all my £8s back! They must be raking it from people who have no idea they have been subscribed up! Interflora should be preparing for some bad publicity too..

Comment from Tim Blake

i have just spoken to Interflora who quickly try to distant themselves from the SCAM on their web site by passing out an email address for Shoppersdiscount. The loyalty side isn’t introduced until the final payment side on line and apparently only shows the £8 per month in the small print in the terms & conditions.

Interflora know fully well what is happening and are doing nothing!

I also bought flowers for my mum on Interflora.co.uk…. I was unaware that shopperdisc had collected a charge of £8 from my credit card. That charge made me go over my credit limit and I got a £12 charge from my credit card company! Please beware, cus they don’t tell you in large print that they will charge you… It’s only in the very tiny small print in the bottom of the terms and conditions….. BEWARE!

I have just realised that shopperdisc have been taking £8 from my account, without any authoriation from me, for the last three months. Like the rest of you, this all began with an online order through interflora.

Now I can’t get onto their website (they want login details, which I don’t have as i never joined!) or ring them–the office is closed.

I’m v. angry and will never use Interflora again!!!!!!

yep same again, thanks to the person who left the original message, after i googled the shopperdisc.co.uk i was shocked to notice the amount of people who had suffered. Well after a quick phone call to a rather polite american, i have had an e mail confirming the cancellation and also the refund of three months ‘membership’ totalling £24. How i didn’t notice the £8 a month is a worry. Thanks again to the resourceful initial message sender. Stuff Interflora….

B*****ds had me exactly the same way! Polite American answered the phone - but seemed dodgy when I asked if they are a UK company (website says they are…yeah, right!) Said she would refund the 3 months subscription I missed on my credit card. I am about to report to credit card company and to trading standards and complain to Interflora….Those b****ds must know by now that they are associated with this fraud. Thanks for this string - google found it and the proof I needed that I am not a total prat for not spotting that I had somehow signed up to this scam. B*****ds!

Those terms and conditions are insane! Your details get sent to shopperdisc if:

” (i) If you have clicked the “CONTINUE” button on the Interflora purchase check-out page displayed once you have submitted an order on the Website, agreeing to view details of the discount voucher offer made in conjunction with Webloyalty, and Webloyalty’s terms and conditions of such offer and services; and”

That’s right, if you click a button asking if you want to see an offer then:

your Personal Information will be held by Webloyalty for the purposes set out in Webloyalty’s privacy policy. Therefore, you are strongly advised to read Webloyalty’s privacy policy

Yep. Your details (including credit card number) are sent to Webloyalty and governed by a completely different privacy policy (one that apparently allows them to take money from you with no further confirmation)

“Webloyalty” are the shopperdisc people, in case that’s not clear. If somebody gets me a screenshot of the page with the CONTINUE button I’ll write this all up properly and drum up some publicity. I can be contacted via the ‘contact’ link at the top of the page.

Finally, It also seems rather too convenient that the shopperdisc.co.uk domain returns a 404, so if it appears on a credit card bill then it’s not easy to track down who they are

VERY ANGRY!
Thank goodness for this thread, same thing has happened to me after a purchase through interfora. I called this shopperdiscount company and spoke to an American lady who will refund my money. I told her what I thought of her company’s dodgy dealings….to which i got a most irritating response….. “im so sorry you feel that way” ahhhhhhhhhhhh
They shoud not be allowed to get away with this….can imagine how much money they are raking in becasue of this…..not everyone checks their bank statements in such detail and isn’t £8 the perfect little amount to go by un-noticed!!!

Comment from Gina
Time: June 21, 2007, 6:13 pm

Thanks to the person who started this thread. I did eventually get through and have been promised my £24 pounds back. As is mentioned above, I think they are relying on our complacency:- firstly, by not reading the small print in terms and conditions (does anyone?) and secondly for not noticing a relatively small sum going out each month. It would still add up to nearly £100 pounds a year if you didn’t notice .

Beware when you do call. I had to repeat several times that I not only wanted to cancel memberswhip I had never knowingly applied for, but that I also required a full refund of all monies taken. I also asked for an assurance that all information held about me and my bank account on their system would be deleted.

I do think as many of us as can be bothered should complain to Interflora and also threaten to (or actually) contact the office of Fair Trading. Ihave.
No reply as yet!

We are just the ones who have noticed.!

I have had exactly the same problem as above - I think that this is the biggest scam in the world - I have just phoned interflora and they told me that I had signed up for this - rubbish - when I realised what it was I did not accept and it automatically took my payment details from interflora!!! Interflora told me that that could not possibly happen! Well it did. I am now waiting on a supervisor from Interflora coming back to me. I have had my money refunded, but that is not the point. Interflora should get over the knuckles for this too. They should not allow this to happen from their so call “secure website” Also discount.co.uk is based in America. The gentleman that I spoke to was too pleasant and apologetic. I told him that he was stealing our money, and he said that he was sorry that I felt that way and would return my money within 3 - 5 days. It is terrible what these people are getting away with!

Hi, I would like to thank you. It came to my attension today after receiving a bank statement that £8.00 had been taken out of my account. Also on checking previous statements there has been 2 other payments taken by shopperdiscounts. I have today contacted them on the telephone number you gave and spoke to a lady who stated she will return my money back into my bank account in the next 3 to 5 working days. She also assured me that all my details have been deleted. Once again thank you, and for giving the correct telephone number.

Hi - thanks from me too for posting the original post.
Have also been caught by this. Again Ellen has promised refund and have told my credit card co to dispute this anyway and stop any future payments.
Again Ellen was very “spacey” when asked if this was UK company and what the reg number etc was. Claims not to know but repeated website address which clearly shows .inc as company rather than ltd or plc.
Am waiting on hold to Interneveragain to ask them for refund on the flowers. Least they can do. Will post if they say yes and hope you all get on ok too. Scott

Hello fellow Scamies,

I have the same story as everyone here:

1. Bought flowers from interflora for my mums birthday in March 2007

2. Have been unaware of consecutive £8 transactions from my account since April 19th, May 21st and June 19th

3. Have informed my bank to stop any payments to this company found at http://www.shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk

4. Will be phoning tmrw for a refund as they seem to operate 10-10 mon-fri on this number 08082341539

5. will contact watchdog and his dog ie. interrippoff etc to make them damn aware that this is unacceptable!

Further looking into this for your information the managing director is named Martin “haha you haven’t read the small print” Child and from there membership terms of service please see details of company:

Interflora/shopper discount scam.
I checked my credit card statement last night and spotted the £8 entry so decided to call my credit card company because I didn’t recognise the transaction. Unfortunatly or fortunatly the department I needed to speak to was closed so I back tracked the entry to the web site and found your thread which gave me the ammunition I needed this am. Phoned Master card this am who were very helpful and they contacted shopper discount on my behalf confirming the credit will be back in my account within the next 3/5 days.
Good luck everyone.
footnote: I called Interflora customer services this am as well and was kept on hold for nearly 30 minutes. Thank you Interflora (NOT)

Add me to the list of interflora shoppers. I called shopper Discount on Saturday and after a couple of times of asking, the American lady said that she would refund my money.

She tried to tell me that they try to make it very clear what you are signing up to.

I have registered it with BBC Watchdog. It is only us that can stop this happening. Please register it on Watchdog, it is really easy.

Unfortunately, you are not the ones who’s been caught out by this.
I have just explained it to Halifax customer care / fraud section, and they hadn’t heard of it either.
They have now cancelled my card and re-issuing an emergency in 4 - 5 days. If you go into a Halifax or Royal Bak of Scotland branch, you can fill out a fraud claim, and Halifax will refund the money. Their fraud team has now been notified of the ’scam’, and will inturn notify all Customer Care Managers of correct procedure for any other customers who also have ‘our’ problem.
Hats off the person who started this discussion.

I ordered flowers, had a look at the discount sheet and thought it was odd that they said not to contact interflora direct. I noticed £8 debit, thought i’d made an error and cancelled using email. Next month the same £8 debit from a slightly different name. Whilst I’m trying to sort this out my credit card company phoned to say that they were stopping my card as it turns out that someone in the US was trying to remove a large sum of money form my credit card account. THANK GOD they knew my spending pattern and could stop this but i have spent all day on the phone. I’ve even had to phone my internet food shop and change all my details to my husbands until my new card and pin arrive. ALL THIS for a bunch of flowers. I’ve emailed interflora after spending too long on hold on the phone. Wonder what they’ll say.

You can find Webloyalty’s privacy policy at http://www.webloyalty.co.uk

You’ll notice in their ‘Recent News’ section that they have announced on 13 June 07 their new deal with Interflora.co.uk
Interflora are fully aware of what is going on and the way Webloyalty will take money from your account. They are also aware that Webloyalty is a US company.

In future, I strongly advise everyone to always look out for the box about giving out your personal information on *any* website, not just Interflora. I always make sure I have chosen the option so that they cannot give out my data. Watch out for the wording though, sometimes you have to tick some boxes and untick others!

Thank you to the person who started this thread - and everyone who’s commented with useful suggestions. I’ve fallen victim too and have just found out this minute - and I’m really frickin’ angry. I think I’m fairly careful generally - but I could almost understand it if this money had been stolen, yes STOLEN, by some dodgy bar, restaurant or 2nd-hand record shop who had skimmed the details off my card or something - but for this to be happening to customers of such a major retailer as Interflora is DISGRACEFUL.

To scam on the back of such a personal (& ‘giving’) thing as buying flowers (mine for Mother’s Day - but they could’ve been for a funeral for all they knew) feels particularly offensive somehow…

I am about to contact my bank, then this company directly - and then, in awareness of the response I get from them, I will then complain to Interflora, BBC Watchdog - and possibly Which too, if I still have the will to live at that point.

And - most significantly I think, I shall notify as many people as I can to look out for this & to beware of using Interflora in the future… and to always check their statements carefully. Like scams throughout history, things like this rely on lack of vigilance. Which I have been. I’m so glad I made the effort though - and certainly will be checking very carefully in the future.

I’ll report back if I have anything to add to what’s already been said. Wish me luck! and good luck to everyone else caught out by this.

well, I have just spoken to the famous ‘Ellen’ - and having clearly & firmly stated my complaint & what I was asking for (i.e. ‘membership’ cancellation, a FULL refund and e-mail confirmation of this), things were entirely polite and trouble-free. I think as long as you strongly signal that you understand perfectly well what is going on and what they are up to, they will not argue the toss. I got the strong impression that she was really starting to tire of receiving calls from unhappy members of the public (who wouldn’t??!) as she just kind-of went into auto-pilot ‘refund’ mode.

Obviously, I will watch carefully to ensure this happens within the promised 5 days - but will still notify my bank and register complaints with Interflora, trading standards organisations ‘Watchdog’ & ‘Which’ and possibly inform some newspapers too. I may end up with my refund (minus interest & cost of phonecalls of course!) - but there are many out there who will totally unaware that they are being conned… and as long as there are, it remains a scam worth their running (as a few refunds here and there will mean little to them). The real outrage is that such a well-known organisation as Interflora associate themselves with such underhand practices. I will certainly never use them again - and will encourage everyone I know not too as well.

On the + side of things, I guess we’ll all check our bank statements alot more carefully in the future (I know I will)!!! It’s only £8 per month - it could’ve been alot worse. In an odd way, by scamming me like this, they have made me aware of this & may have incidentally saved me & everyone I tell being scammed to a far more damaging extent in the future.

But that, of course, means nothing to those still being scammed - or to those who are still scamming. That’s why only spreading awareness will help stamp out this particular abuse.

Thanks once again to everyone who has offered their stories - and to JPS, without whom I could have been £96 per year worse off… FOREVER !!!

Hey again,

Spoke to Shopper Discounts today and after 5 mins wait got a full refund and cancelled my account. I also got 2 standard replies from Interflora stating I had given my “digital signature” to signup to this scheme.

“By entering your email into the £10 cashback section of our website and clicking continue, you have provided us with a digital signature authorizing us to transmit your details to Shopper Discounts And Rewards.”

I wrote back still complaining that I had been tricked into this and at no point did I authorise £8 to come off my card every month. I also stated that I found it strange hundreds of others felt the same. I sent a link to this site and got a further reply :

“Dear Ken

In response to your previous email, I fully understand your concerns, I
can confirm that I have just visited the website you have kindly
provided and have passed the information contained in it to our customer
services manager.”

I have logged a complaint with Watchdog and WHich online also and I think they will run with a feature judging by the level of posts here!

How many more people are going to get caught by this scam? Yep I’m another victim of the Interflora/Shoppersdisc.co.uk scandal. I’ll forced them to refund me the money, but this must being doing Interflora a lot of harm, all you want to do is buy flowers, and you end up paying £8 a month for discounts that you never see!

Thanks

The same thing has been happening to me. I ordered flowers for my friend in March and they have been taking £8 from me a month since April. Just goes to show that we all really need to pay attention to our statements especially those of us who do online shopping as I wish I had spotted it sooner. Thanks so much to everyone on this site i called them spoke to an american lady who cancelled it and refunded the amounts!

Hi everyone,

I bought flowers for my Grandmother for Mother’s Day and obviously I too clicked on the link for the £10 discount. Although I can’t quite be sure. Regardless, it was not made clear to me at all what I was signing up to.

I rang my credit card company who told me to ring shopperdisc and they offered me a no quibble refund. I did go on a rant about how it was not made clear to me and they in their American way said I am so sorry you feel like that etc etc. WHATEVER

I am absolutely outraged at Interflora, a well -known trusted brand for basically stealing money from their customers. I work in PR and I am going to make it my personal mission to make every customer watchdog site/television programme features this scam.

How dare Interflora do this. None of us our idiots yet we fell for it so thousands of people must be paying out money because of Interflora and they need to be made aware of this.

Comment from SN

It is highly misleading and the membership fee is not clearly mentioned. I was stunned when I received my bank statement and £8 had been taken out. There needs to be a very clear statement of what is being opted into and the £8 fee is not made clear enough. I have cancelled and will be making a formal complaint to Interflora.

The company did not care one bit when I stated to them that the opt-in to the scheme was not transparent enough regarding payment and did not meet UK online marketing guidelines. I will be taking this further with the marketing director of Interflora as this is damaging their reputation.

I have to admit though I was not too impressed with the data management at Interflora - especially when I was asked if I enjoyed the flowers via email and it was made very clear that I bought them for a funeral. Not the best way to handle ther data for marketing purposes - rather like this shopperdiscount malarky!

Fingers crossed that the refund will come through swiftly!

I have asked shopperdiscount to email me images of exactly what the screens look like of what we all ended up subscribing to and if they send them to me I will pass on to Trading Standards so they can investigate and prosecute both Interflora and Shoppersdiscounts. SN you are right as it must not meet with marketing guidelines.

Once I have more details I will talk to my contacts at the BBC and try and get coverage of this on Watchdog as the public need to be made aware of this. This company must be making a fortune and need to be stopped. Interflora are capitalising on the confidence the public have with their brand and the public must be aware they can’t trust them either.

Have also contacted watch dog and hopefuly they do investergate this SCAM and make it public.

Im still concerned that this company still has my card details so have orded a new card from my bank and i will also explain the situation regarding shopperdiscount.

I still can not believe that interflora allowed this to happen and i will always read small print etc, in future.

Good luck everyone

Yep, me to. Used Interflora, no mention to my recollection of an £8 per month fee for your £10 discount. Just rung them and they (Shoppersdiscount…….) seem resigned to giving me a full refund, but will see. They must be getting used to the complaints as the Amrerican lady caved in quickly. But how many others out there are being coned? Almost slipped past me. Won’t be using Inteflora again. Their loss. How is complaint to Wathdig, etc going.

Thank goodness for this thread and bringing it out into the open. I’ve tried ringing them for refund but think i rang too early, will try after 10pm tonight. Found out yesterday that £8 per month has been going out of my account since I ordered flowers through Interflora for my daughter in law when she had a miscarriage in Apriil and ever since £8 per month has been taken out of my account. I am absolutely disgusted that such a so called reputable company is in on a scam like this and will NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. Am also going to report them to Watchdog and will get in touch with Interflora. Have rung the company, spoken to a nice American lady who has promised to cancel and refund the £24 I have so far paid. Yes I’ve been “scammed” too - a full refund is on it’s way. However, I’m still a bit concerned that these people have our details on their database and that they will have them for the next 6 months (so they say) before they will delete them - in case there is any problem with the refund process, apparently. Is there anybody out there who is aware of a process by which we can ensure that these details are, in fact, deleted from what appears to be a foreign company’s database?

Interflora do not appear to be the slightest bit concerned about what is happening. Apparently it’s our own fault, we should have read the small print which was placed in some obscure place on our computer screens; would this be written using a white coloured font on a white background? Surely they must be losing a lot of custom. If you want to have your details removed from Interflora’s database you could try ringing this freephone number 0800 505060 - they take a while to answer but it’s well worth the wait!

I hope Interflora is the only ‘reputable’ company using this marketing device. It appears to be designed in such a way that the companies involved want to put an end to customers’ trust in internet shopping; why they should want to do that …… who knows?

Good luck

Haveda

I aslo found out that interflora and those other idiots ripped me off. I emailed Interflora’s CEO, FEO and some other muppet:

Subject: Thanks a bunch…

Michael & Jon,

I hope you don’t feel this is an intrusion of your private business email box! No, you can’t possibly, knowing you are freely passing your customers’ personal and secure information to third parties without their consent!

This is what happened to me a couple of months ago when I bought some flowers for my mother via your website. You passed my credit card details to Shopper Discount & Rewards, who in turn signed me up for a paid membership! It was only by chance that I found out that every month for the last two months, your fantastic partners in business and crime were withdrawing money out of my account! And it looks like I am not the only one:

http://www.geometricrate.com/blog/general/discussion/httpshopperdiscountsandrewardscouk-warning/

How can a well known and supposedly loved brand in the market place, a brand known by your grandmother, mother and family all around the world can be ripping off poor, unsuspecting people by freely giving their details to online scammers? How can you be taking advantage of your loyal customers’ trust? Oh, is it so you can buy your family flowers from the commission you make from each signup. Well done for destroying the trust of so many of buyers who will never use your service again! I really hope it is worth it!

Your business tactics are purely disgraceful, er sorry, business tactics, far too strong a word for a falling market leader!

P.S, I don’t expect a response as I’m sure you’ll be too busy sacking your marketing director who signed you up for this wonderful deal! NOT.

Comment from Interflora
Time: July 25, 2007, 5:35 pm

Before you shout at me for his comment, I work for Interflora, in the department you guys are ringing to get refunded, and let me say this……were all behind you

Now, that may seem strange, but allow me to explain

Firstly, ShopperDisc is not a scam in the worst sense of the word, I would say more of a misleading product, to clarify, I will compare it to the bank charges scandal.

Barclays will charge you for going overdrawn, they are legally allowed to take up to £6 as a charge, however you will find that this is closer to £36. Barclays rely on people not acting on this to get profit, you can call Barclays and they will refund you all your charges if you threaten court action.

ShopperDisc is similar, however, unlike Barclays you do actually agree to it, it’s shown to you three times in bold writing as you claim your £10 cashback.

Granted a lot of people don’t look at the TAC, myself included, but all we can do here at customer services is point you to ShopperDisc to claim your money back.

We did not make the decision to ally ourselves with ShopperDisc, nor do we like having to deal with the multitude of complaints regarding it, this is not to say we do not like helping each and every customer, it just annoys us that the bigwigs upstairs are not answering for their crimes.

My suggestion is to go straight to ShopperDisc, as they will refund you faster than we will, if at all. All we are told to do is quote TAC.

I hope you use Interflora again, in fact, I can say that the £10 cashback scheme is the only thing on our website of that nature, we will help you all we can but there is only so much we can do. We understand your frustration but until this is taken to the television, we don’t think the bigwigs will pull the plug. Just avoid the Cashback offer and your order will be carried out with no problems.

Thanks for reading

Hi There,

I’m stunned at this. Every other online purchase i have ever made i’ve had to give all my details and then hit the pay/confirm button. Its obvious you’ve made a purchase. I’m stunned you can make a purchase from another company by just ticking a box, let alone a purchase that is repeated every month until you notice.

I’m suprised that this isn’t against the banking codes, i’m also suprised that it doesn’t fall foul of the data protection act (the information is stored and transmitted electronicaly) as they are usual quite careful about sharing of personal data ?

Its a scam and i’m sure its ilegal.

cya,
Lee

Comment from Mary
Time: July 26, 2007, 1:14 pm

Barclays do charge if you go overdrawn. But they will charge you if you have an account, an agreement, a contract call it whatever you like with them. They do not pass your contact details to another financial institution who will then draw money out of your account.

Your comparison is just flawed and you shouldn’t be dragging another brand name into this.

According to the data protection act, data must not be disclosed to other parties without the consent of the individual whom it is about, unless there is legislation or other overriding legitimate reason to share the information (for example, the prevention or detection of crime).

Interflora and Webloyalty have breached (probably negligently and naively in the case of Interflora and fraudulently and knowingly in the case of webloyalty) many UK and European consumer protection laws and regulations. This is evident by the standard and ready made responses Webloyalty sends out to all its victims and the fact that a dedicated team of people has been employed to deal with the aftermath.

It’s a sad state of affairs, which without a doubt will soon attract the attention of the press. If interflora had any business sense left in them would pull out of this scheme asap and send some flowers to all the people affected. That way they won’t look so pathetic when one of their PR people is being questioned by Nicky Cambell.

Same here. 2 months of payments have now gone before I noticed. The fault lies fully with Interflora. I will not use them again and think they should quickly sort out this issue with all customers and remove the scam. Its benefiting no one except the us company shopperdiscounts. I am forwarding the details to as many consumer sites and groups as I can find until this is sorted out.

Yup I just got caught as well. I am fairly aware and still got caught out although when I rang up to claim a refund they (shopperdiscounts)were very helpful. I got caught out through SWREG an online payment provider. I would recommend that people avoid this company as their reply to me was that ” it was clearly explained and you had to opt in twice”. I am writing to watchdog to try and get these gits penalised for what amounts to theft.

Comment from Dan

You people need to understand when it’s your fault, im not disagreeing with you about it seeming like a scheme but you guys need to understand the following:

A) Companies nowdays generally try and get money out of you in as many ways as possible
B) You NEED to read what your signing up for
C) Companies rely on YOU to take the “moral high ground” and say such stupid things as “I shouldn’t have to read the terms and conditions”

The short answer is, it’s your fault, stop moaning because you HAVE signed up to something, you HAVE given them authorization to pass on your card details and if Interflora have done anything illegal they WOULD have been told to remove the content by the multitude of government agencies designed to track down and eliminate this kind of thing, Interflora have done nothing wrong legally and you people are demanding your money back when you should be holding up your hands and saying “my bad, in future ill read when im signing up for”, it is immoral and deceitful, but if that’s your stance then just don’t use them again.

Well I think you’ll find that this post and comments are generating bad feeling and publicity towards interflora so hopefully this will help put a stop to such schemes. Remember not everyone reads all the small print on a transaction especially on a website that is assumed to be safe - one would assume that a reputable company such as interflora would be less inclined to hide dodgy transactions with third parties in their small print.

Just checked my credit card account and for once i only had a couple of charges, never noticed it before. After a search on the net i came across this thread, thank goodness.

I phoned the same number, spoke to a very polite american woman who could not be more helpful, she said she would credit my account within the next 3/4 days. What was worrying, and my fault, was that when I said I would check with my credit card company on past transactions she told me they would be crediting the past five months back to me! I thought it was only the past two months. what a con!

Also been caught by this scam, how dare interflora give our card details to a third party company that will then defraud us of our hard earned cash.

I am going to write to the head of complaints at Interflora and would advise everyone else to do the same.

I have just written this email to both Interflora’s general and corporate email web forms. I’ll call the shopdisc.co.uk people and tell them the same thing. Let’s see what they come back with!

To whom this may concern,

I noticed that a charge of £8 was made to my credit card without my knowledge, agreement or authorisation by shopdisc.co.uk - an affiliate of yours to whom you have passed my credit card details. I understand from various sources that this will be done on a monthly basis, again without my prior knowledge or consent.

I write to demand a full refund of the charges made to my account immediately, either from you or shopdisc.co.uk, as well as the removal of my credit card details from any of the schemes you or shopdisc.co.uk may be running. I would also like to have written assurances that this will not be a recurring problem in forthcoming months.

I believe that this unauthorised charge to my credit card constitutes fraud, and unless this is resolved promptly and amicably I reserve all rights to pursue you and shopdisc.co.uk through the courts, criminal and civil.

I have, thus far, ordered from you on several occasions and have had no problems with your service. However, I will not tolerate fraud.

I would appreciate a prompt and full resolution to this matter.

I’ve had the same experience as countless other people. This is scandalous. I don’t recall seeing the con in the small print, although with a company with a reputation like intreflora’s you don’t expect to have to go throught the small print with a fine toothcomb for fear of getting ripped off. Never will I use these con artists again. the woman at shopperdisc made it clear that it was not Interflora’s fault . . . Crap, as they have obviously sanctioned this scam.

I thought Interflora was a reputable company. They are obviously not, as they are allowing a third party to steal our money! I distinctly remember NOT clicking on anything other than what I needed to, in order to pay for the flowers I bought.

Good job I checked my statement this month. I usually don’t!!!

I intend to complain to trading standards.

Ordered some t.shirts from above company in U.S.A, they were acting as a third party. Supplier gridlock never sent the order was relieved to not be charged on my credit card, but now feel that i to are part of this scam regarding £8.00, now appearing on statement. I cancelled the order as they fell short on delivery times. So no goods and £8.00 out of pocket too.

Thanks for e.mail address I will try to get my money back.

Just noticed the same problem… i ordered flowers for mothers day, and have been charged £8 per month since then ! Thank God for this discussion board. I’ve reported this practice to Watchdog and i’m going to phone this company up to try and get a refund.

I’m a law graduate, i’m not naive when it comes to contracts !! I did not knowingly authorise my details to be passed on to another company and i certainly did not agree to pay a membership fee to a company whom i have had no previous dealings with and no knowledge of ! Why would i ? Why would any of us ? Its a disgrace that a supposed reputable company like Interflora are involved in such a scam.

Very sad that things like this are so prevalent within the industry.
It gives everyone a bad name, and is very unfair to consumers and professional florists worldwide.

Consumers in America and across the pond are learning that there is an alternative to shady practices, high charges and inferior product quality, but it’s taking time to get the word out to the masses.
Dealing with a Real Florist is the safest, most cost effective way consumers and recipients can be assurred that they are being treated fairly and the product being created and sent is of exceptional quality.

Real Florists are brick and mortar flower shops, featuring professional designers, high quality floral product and a commitment to consumers worldwide. Real Florists don’t play games and you always get what you paid for.
No hidden mystery charges !

Real Florists encourage you to call in to the shop, not use second or third parties that collect fees from your total order.

Experience the difference a Real Florist can make in your lives and be part of the solution. I assure you that the time spent will reap generous rewards.

Remember - Real Florists deliver real smiles, everyday, anywhere in the world.

At Manorville Florist we are proud of our efforts to direct consumers worldwide to the right filling florist.

Like the 100+ before, I have also been had by Interflora and Shopper Discounts, I have just spoken to the very pleasant/polite American lady, who confirms that she will refunded 4 payments of £8 and remove our details from their computer. (Many thanks to the information given by the previous unlucky people.)

To safeguard any further transactions being made I contacted my bank to ensure that no further payments are made.

I tried Watchdog’s website but were unable to get a link to their contact page, however will keep trying, if only to make other people aware.

Since this experience, never will I use Interflora again, I thought, that they were an old and trusted company!

I was only made aware of this by my bank because I was querying another amount that has disappeared from our account to http://www.esellituk.uk. A NON-EXISTENT WEBSITE. If anyone has heard of this please add another message to this string.

As Managing Editor of the flower industry’s only independent trade magazine (Florist & Wholesale Buyer) I am really sorry you have had this experience.

The very best way to order flowers … to both guarantee that you get best value (remember companies like Interflora take anything up to 30% for passing your order onto a florist for delivery) and to avoid any chance of having your details misused, is to contact a real flower shop in the area you want flowers delivered to.

You have to be a bit careful who you choose as sadly some disreputable websites pretend to be local shops but are actually order centres. Therefore be careful of freephone numbers and try to ascertain if they really are local by asking them info about the location they are in … i.e. if you know where the church is ask where their shop is in relation. But if you find a real bricks and mortar florist and say “Caroline Marshall-Foster from F&WB sent you” I promise you won’t be disappointed. If you are then you can always ring me!

In terms of searching 118118 is fairly good, Google and Yell are OK if you scroll down past the paid for ads or you can use our website at http://www.masterfloristdirect.com where our free-to-use Find a Florist service lists contact details for every real florist in the UK we send our magazine to.

Hope this will help in the future as sending flowers should be a good experience not bad. Feel free to let me know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Caroline

I just checked my bank statements and found that £8 a had been debited from this ’shop disc.co.uk’. I thought that was bed enough but on closer inspection I noticed they had been doing so since april!! I was shocked when I discovered it was because I ordered some flowers from a reputable company such as interflora. The flowers were a day late anyway, they were way overpriced and they cost me an additional £64 in ’shopppers discounts’. I shall never use interflora again.
I phoned and spoke to an american lady at shop disc who assured me she would refund the £64 in the next 3-5 days. She was very nice and had clearly delt with this situation a million times before as she immediately asked if I had ever ordered flowers with interfrauda (sorry, interflora).
I contacted interfrauda who told me that they had never heard of such a company, so I will be calling back in the morning to apeak to the manager.
Good luck everyone…..

I’ve not yet had a chance to read through all the posts on this blog, but I’ve read enough to get the jist of what’s being going on here. I came across this blog through google. I had a go at trying to find out some information about this company having lost two lots of £8 from my bank account two months running. I couldn’t for the life of me work out why the money was disappearing from my account. I found out that payment for software which I had purchased from neatimage.com (a company which sells good noise reduction software for digital images) had been dealt with by a company called SWReg Inc. accessed through cardquery.com. They are a “secure ecommerce reseller”. During the purchasing process I was offered discounts and rewards. I thought “Why not?”. I had to enter my email address twice to sign up, but I don’t recall at any time giving this company my bank account details. I am told that because I typed in my email address twice I was allowing them to take this £8 per month from my account. This I can only determine means that either neatimage.com (less likely) or SWReg.org/cardquery.com have passed my credit card details to shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk. I have spoken briefly to trading standards, but they said that I would have to go back and read the company’s terms and conditions. I cannot imagine that law would allow companies to take money from a person’s bank account without that person typing in and handing their bank account details to the company. The fact that so many people have not realised that they were signing up for this kind of treatment surely means that it is misleading and underhand? I didn’t feel that trading standards were stepping forward to help me, which is quite disappointing. Their stance was basically to go away and try and work it out for yourself! If you can’t turn to the trading standards for help, then why are they there? At least perhaps they should look in to it for us and tell us whether this company should be allowed to operate in this way! The lady at shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk was quick to refund me once the conversation started to get heated, which suggests to me that they know that what they are doing is wrong (we’re yet to find out whether this is the case legally). She also told me that she had sent me 7 emails regarding this account - Well I didn’t receive them! I have been told that I am getting my money back and the removal of monies from my account will cease. I am waiting for my money back, then I will be asking my bank for a new card! Okay, so I’ll have my money back, but that doesn’t stop me being thoroughly annoyed at a company having been “dipping” in to my bank account without my knowledge…and to think that this could be happening to SO many people. My money has been in someone else’s account gaining interest along with so many other people’s £8’s instead of the money residing in OUR accounts where it belongs!! Anyway, I’m still raging! Time for a cup of tea I think!

I too have been “S***T on from a great height!” I made a purchase through Interflora and have had in total 5 transaction taken from my card without my permission. I spoke to an american lady and expressed that it is unlawfull what they are doing, conning people into taking their money without them realising it is too late!. She mentioned that Interflora was a client of theirs. (Someone is telling porkies somewhere) The american lady said my account will be credited with the money…. We will have to wait and see.
Its a shame as Interflora will lose alot of business through this, and I will never use them again. I will certainly be passing this information on to as many people as I can, so that they do not get stung. Thank goodness for this Blogg

Shame about Trust eh?
I never subscribed to your company, and have never even heard of you b4 I noticed your ‘recurring debit’ in my bank
account..but you did good, cos now you’ve cost Interflora all of our custom..I so hope that if they have paid you a nice fat bonus for our details, or you pay them for some sort of website sponsorship, that is was worth it..am telling everyone not to use them from now on..and to watch out for you..Well Done.. Stuff Your Discount!

Here’s My Questions
1) How can you deem taking £8 a month from ppls bank accounts, Without Their Consent…A Discount? am sorry, but I’m laughing so hard..

2) Are our involuntary £8’s a month what subsidises these discounts?

3) If we didnt give you our account details personally..then who did?

You’re right..this sucks..but am curious for your
explaination as to how your customer services advisors..cant get our names, our post codes, or our email addy’s correctly..yet you can take money from our accounts without our actual consent, but not call it theft?
I couldnt see that standing in court..LOL

Dont suppose either they’ll ever tell us how many other people they have done this too?

it has taken me 4 months to realise!
lots of people has stated that after ringing up a poite american they were promised refunds, but no one has actually confirmed that the refunds were made. Is this promise simply a brush off or do they actually keep their promise and make the refund?
The 1st thing i did when i realised that an unathourised payment was being charged was cancel my card. Now that the card is no longer active, they wont be able to refund to the card and i’m not happy about giving them any further details so it looks like i’ll be without the refund.

And why are you advertising as a co.uk company..yet based in the US? Hmmm..

I most certainly did NOT authorise anyone to debit my acct each month..and that £30 bouquet could have turned into £126..errrm…I don’t see any discount there?? Does anyone else?

Shopperdisc: “We cannot be held accountable for the general publics lack of awareness of what theyre signing up for when its very clear what they are.”

I think as a company you provide a service to the general public and should therefore make the terms and conditions more obvious. This rather sneering and unprofessional comment is not helping to improve the public face of your company. I would love to see the stats for the number of people who signed up to shopperdisc directly through their own website compared to those who accidentally joined while making a purchase on the internet.<
